Stool Fecal Egg Count (FEC) FAQUpdated 7 months ago

This test is only for dogs who have tested positive for hookworms.

The option to upgrade to an FEC is available on the test dashboard after test activation.  Upgrades are available up to 7 days after results have been reported. If you would like to upgrade to an FEC, please log into your MySimplePetLab account, and use the upgrade link found in the results section of your dashboard.
While it is not common, if there is not enough sample left to use for the upgrade, you will be notified and refunded.

What is the benefit of doing a FEC test?
The FEC with MiniFLOTAC is the most thorough fecal egg count method. It calculates the number of hookworm eggs per gram of stool.

How does MySimplePetLab run the FEC test?

MySimplePetLab uses the MiniFLOTAC Fecal Egg Count (FEC) test. This is the most sensitive fecal egg count method, which detects down to 5 eggs per gram (epg) vs. only 25, 50, or 100 epg with the McMaster method. The FEC with MiniFLOTAC calculates the number of hookworm eggs per gram of stool. Fecal Egg Count Reduction Test (FECRT) is the % reduction the egg count between two tests (typically a pre-treatment and post-treatment sample). MySimplePetLab will calculate the FECRT following the testing of the second sample we receive.
